Easy 3 hour stroll today. Seems funny to call 3 hours a stroll, but after the previous couple of hard days, and with Greg feeling much better that's what it felt like. Started with a pretty decent uphill out of Dole, then more tracks around the mountain, looking down to the river very far below.
The morning was beautiful - clear skies and sunny, but then the weather came in for the afternoon, which was turning out to be a recurring pattern.

Woke up to beautiful clear skies |

Two of our porters. The blue and green backpacks are Greg's and mine. The red in the middle is two of our big duffel bags roped together that one of those little porters carried. They are so strong! |
We saw our first real yaks today, and they were loads bigger and hairier than the not-yaks, a pretty obvious difference. And we were also treated to our first baby yaks - so fuzzy and cute!
Machermo is pretty small, about 6-8 tea lodges surrounded by little farmyards with plenty of yaks roaming around, and that's it!
We're pretty high now, and I had quite a headache for the latter part of the day, but not sure whether it was altitude related, or I just didn't drink enough water.
After lunch we headed out for another of the dreaded acclimatisation walks, were we trekked up above Machermo. It was windy, snowy and pretty full on, but actually weirdly enough mostly enjoyable. In fact, aside from getting sick, so far the trip has been a lot of fun, with the trekking being hard but manageable. We're feeling pretty good at this stage.
