Camping at Wollondilly River Station

Campsite all set up
We went camping for the weekend at Wollondilly River Station with our fiends J & J. After a long, dusty and bumpy drive in on the dirt road (which we actually enjoyed) we were met by the grumpiest man in the world who at first couldn't find our booking. Eventually he directed us to our campsite on a rise above the little side river

We got our tents up and poured the first drink while waiting for dark to light the fire. The first night J & J cooked a delicious chicken in the camp oven directly in the fire. There is something pretty special about sitting outside by the fire, especially when your dinner is being cooked on it!

The next day it was super hot so we walked to the main river for a swim to cool off. Unfortunately it was so windy in the afternoon that J & J's tent was ripped and they had to head home, leaving just Greg, Parker and I for the final windy and stormy night.

We also saw our first snake in the wild which was a little freaky, and made us more aware of where we let Parker roam. I was walking along the rocks by the river and it slid right nearby me and into the water. We think it was a red belly black snake.

It was Parker's first camping trip, and he did pretty well sleeping in the tent with us, especially in the storm. He also had his first experience with kangaroos, which he immediately chased up into the trees. Thankfully he didn't catch up to any of them, as I am sure they would do more damage than he could. He might look big, but really he's just a skinny little sook!

It was a fun weekend, but learnt that if there is even a chance there will be a little wind, make sure you peg down all the ropes you can on your tent!
