EBC Day 9: Dzongla to Lobuche

Woke to beautiful sunny skies and amazing views - the big peak is Ama Dablam at 6,800m
This was the shortest and supposedly one of the easiest days, but I really struggled! It was relatively flat compared to almost every other day. At least our guides described it as flat - we soon learnt this meant "a little bit up and a little bit down", otherwise known as Nepalese flat.

Heading out of Dzongla we basically wound out way once more around the side of a mountain. We had another stunning morning with beautiful views of the mountains which had been hidden by clouds yesterday afternoon. Before long we could see the main route across the valley which looked like a highway compared to our little track. After traipsing around the mountain, and across a flat and mostly dry river bed we joined the main trail for the last bit into Lobuche.

Not exactly sure why I found today so hard. It's likely I was just tired from the massive day over Chola pass yesterday and there was no adrenaline to keep me going today due to the easy route! My legs were tired, my hip flexors sore and I just felt awful! Was definitely a day of just putting one foot in front of the other. Greg and I had plenty of discussion about how much we thought a helicopter might be to take us direct to base camp, not to mention plenty of daydreams about meat pies and lasagne!

We arrived at Lobuche in time for lunch (not meat pies) and just before the snow started falling again. I had an anxious wait to see if mum and dad would arrive with the rest of our group. Mum hadn't been well and there was talk of her possibly not continuing. I was so happy to see them both walk in the room with the others - the group was back together!

After food and some rest I was feeling a bit better, and everyone was pretty happy and looking forward to tomorrow when we would finally reach Everest base camp!

Such stunning views this morning
Trudging along
Decided this was a good spot for a rest in the sun
Yakkity Yak - we gave this big fellow (fellowess?) a very wide berth...

Looking back up the valley towards Chola Pass - crazy to think we came over there yesterday! Spot the roofs in the middle where we spent the night.

Above the dry river bed we crossed before joining the main EBC route you can see on the right
